Land Rover driven through bank’s window to get to cash machine
Burglars smashed a Land Rover through the glass front of a London bank to steal a cash machine on Monday.
Dramatic images show Metro Bank’s Chelsea branch in tatters after the early-morning ram raid.
Police believe the thieves made off with the ATM in a white Mercedes van. They had left the scene before officers arrived.
The area has been cordoned off while investigations are carried out.
No customers or staff were at the branch at the time of the incident, according to Metro Bank.
A spokesperson for the bank said: ‘We are working with the police to support their investigation.
‘The store is currently closed as a result of the incident and we apologise to customers for any inconvenience this may cause.
‘We are working as hard and fast as we can to reopen the store as soon as possible, and will be keeping our customers updated on our progress.
‘We also want to reassure any customers with Safe Deposit Boxes that these remain safe and secure.’
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: ‘Police were called to Kings Road, SW3 at 04.27hrs on Monday, 16 March to reports of a burglary.
‘There have been no arrests. Enquiries are ongoing.’
